BALLISTIC COMIC

BALLISTIC COMIC

Today Ballistic issue #3 is released.  I wrote and co-created (with artist Darick Robertson) this 5 issue series for Black Mask Studios.  It’s an utterly unhinged science-fiction crime saga about an air conditioning repair man and his psychotic talking gun. People seem to be liking it – while making comparisons to Cronenberg, Aronofsky, Burroughs and comics such as Saga and Transmetropolitan, most bloggers and critics agree that it’s not like any other comic. You can read more about it or order it directly (paper or digital) from Black Mask Studios “Ballistic is my favorite comic of 2013.” - Grant Morrison “One comic in particular this year was a complete shock to the system. Ladies, gentlemen – I give you Ballistic! … FUCK YES!” - Comics Beat (Laura Sneddon) [preview] http://comicsbeat.com/exclusive-sneak-peek-ballistic-1-by-adam-egypt-mortimer-darick-robertson/ “In the future, your gun will talk to you — and it’ll be kind of an asshole. After we read Ballistic, we were blown away not just by ... … Read entire article »

The Darkest Hour: Survivors – what happens after the alien invasion?

The Darkest Hour: Survivors – what happens after the alien invasion?

This week, the Blu-Ray of the feature THE DARKEST HOUR comes out, and I’ve got a ten minute short film sequel in the special features of the release. The Darkest Hour, directed by Chris Gorak, written by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts, and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, tells the story of Earth being invaded by mysterious aliens made of electricity. The feature takes place in Moscow; my short takes place weeks after the end of that story, and takes us around the world, from The US to Afghanistan to Tokyo, as the survivors of the apocalypse learn to communicate with one another and try to fight back against the invaders. The project was an awesome opportunity for me to work with heavy special effects and to create a fast moving, apocalyptic frenzy. There’s a very cool review of the short in this review of the blu-ray at comics bulletin. CLICK ... … Read entire article »

THE MINUTES: News From the Future with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy

THE MINUTES: News From the Future with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy

Working with FOX and New Regency, I directed a fictional documentary set in the world of Andrew Niccol’s science fiction feature IN TIME about a world where time has become the currency in a population of the ageless. Posing as a kind of Michael Moore like character from the future, I set about making a socio-political investigative piece of agit prop spinning around the proposition “For a few to be immortal, many must die.” The piece takes place before the start of the feature, and catches most of the main characters in fast, intrusive-styled interviews. Justin Timberlake, as Will, barely has time to stop running while we talk. Cillian Murphy, as a cop, treats me as though he’d rather see me shot than ask any more questions. Amanda Seyfried, Vincent Kartheiser, and Mathew Bomer also star. A 4-minute version hit the web as the feature hit theaters. ... … Read entire article »

JERK ALL STARS hip hop subculture web series

JERK ALL STARS hip hop subculture web series

“Jerkin” is a hip-hop subculture that originated in Los Angeles and spread throughout the world.  It had encompassed fashion, music, dance, and a DIY ethic that has motivated thousands of teenagers to produce tracks, shoot videos, and invent moves straight out of their backyards.  I directed and co-produced a 15 part series called JERK ALL-STARS, sponsored by Sprite and distributed by Mysapce.  The show was one part documentary and one part street-level dance competition, and it brought me full force into a subculture that was exploding in the streets of Watts, Long Beach, and Hollywood. We got into the origins of  the dougie, hung out with The Rejectz when they performed Cat Daddy, captured 19 year old producing genius J-Hawk in his home studio, saw Indigo Vanity on set on a colorful music video shoot, and pitted the best jerk crews in the country against one another in a vicious pit ... … Read entire article »

SINATORO: UltraGenius Grant Morrison and I plot to destroy your mind

SINATORO: UltraGenius Grant Morrison and I plot to destroy your mind

Award winning comic book writer and psychedelic baddass Grant Morrison is giving me a script for what might be one of the most insane American movies in a decade.  SINATORO is a psychedelic science fiction revenge thriller set in a landscape made of American pop culture nightmares.  Grant and I have been looking for years to do a project together. When he pitched this thing to me I had pick pieces of my blown mind up off the floor before saying, enthusiastically, FUCK YEAH LET’S DO THIS.  I’ve pretty much ALWAYS wanted to direct a Morrison story. Zdonk is producing.  Watch this space for more info and check out sinatoro.com for more. … Read entire article »

This creature will eat your soulface! (Concept design)

This thing will eat your face and pick its teeth with your soul. I recently submitted the rough draft for my first writer/director FEATURE assignment project. And I worked with a genius monster creator who made this concept design. I can’t yet announce what the project is, and I can’t yet disclose who this artist is, but I can wrap it all up with a big old FUCK YEAH. … Read entire article »

The Feature Film machine begins it’s slow whir into action

The Feature Film machine begins it’s slow whir into action

2009 was a year spent deep in development. I contacted novelists, comic book writers, screenwriters and artists, looking to find material or develop stories from scratch with a multitude of collaborators.  I had many amazing writers agree to work with me, to adapt scripts for me, or to give me access to their work. … Read entire article »
